Marshall Family History

Listed here are some of the other surnames in my Family Tree:

JESSUP/JESSOP
My interest in the Jessup (or Jessop) family of Norfolk stems from my Great Grandmother Susan who married George Marshall at
Bedford Registry Office in 1901. Susan was one of four girls out of a family of 8 children who all originated from (mainly) Hockham,
Norfolk. Most of my Jessup tree going back to my 6x Great Grandfather Robert (b.1693 in Hockham) has come from Chrissy Doyle-
Ward, Nigel Musk, Chris Alexander and Adrian Foster, they have researched the Mallows line which is Susan's maternal line and kindly
passed on their information on the Jessups.

Robert(1) Jessup was born in 1693 in Hockham, Norfolk and married Mary Livock in 1740. They had 2 children, Robert(2) b.1742 and
Francis b.1745. Robert(1) died in 1777 aged 84. Robert(2) married Elizabeth Reeve in 1744 and they had 9 children, he died in 1824 aged 82. One of his sons, also called Robert(3) was born in 1778 and he married Sarah Oakley. They had 7 children, one of which was John(1) b.1815. John's occupation on census returns varies between agricultural labourer to brick maker and back to farm labourer. He married Martha Powley and they had 8 children - these Jessups certainly knew how to keep the Hockham population growing! John(1) died in 1882 aged 67. Their third child was another John(2) b.1852 and he was a farm/agricultural labourer all his life. He married Frances Mallows in 1873 in Illington, Norfolk and they had 8 children, the second of which was my great grandmother Susan born in1876.

WHITE
I have managed to trace my White ancestors back to the beginning of the 19th century when William White was born. Details going back
this far are very sketchy but the information found so far has been confirmed by GRO records and census returns. William married
Charlotte Cade and they had 4 children: Sophia Ann & John Charles b.1827 (possibly twins), William b.1829 and Maria b.1831.
Sophia married Charles Dixon in 1857 and lived until 1889 in Thorpe-on-the-Hill, they had 4 children. John Charles married Elizabeth
Cartledge in 1848 and they lived in Lincoln. John Charles died in 1873 aged just 46. In the 25 years they were married, they produced 9
children. What became of William is not known. Maria is my Great-Great Grandmother, she married Thomas Brooks in 1857 and died in
1916, age at death being given as 86. They had 5 children, one of them being my Great Grandfather John Tom Brooks, born in 1864.

BAINES
My research tells me that the Baines family came from Stanground in Huntingdonshire. I've managaed to trace back to my 3x Great Grandfather William Baines who was born around 1817 in Stanground. In 1838 he married Alice Fisher from Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire. They had 5 children: John b.1841, James b.1844, Sarah b.1846, Robert b.1850 and Fanny b.1857. According to the 1851 census, William was a brick maker before being listed as a corn porter in 1861 and then a labourer in 1871.

Their 4th child, Robert Baines was my 2x Great Grandfather. Robert married Mary Harding (from Wansford, Northamtonshire) in 1870, but from what I can tell, they already had a daughter, Annie(1), born in 1867. As she got older Annie was always known as Annie Harding Baines (using her mother's maiden name). I haven't got my hands on her birth certificate yet (but have the GRO reference), so I'll be interested to see if Robert is confirmed as her natural father. There's something about this record that makes feel a bit suspicious!

Annie(1) went on to marry John Tom Brooks from Lincoln in 1893 and they had one child, Annie Mary (my Grandmother) born in 1894. Annie and died in 1948 aged 81 and is buried with her husband John Tom in Reepham, Lincoln.
