Hall Family (c.1820 – 2004)

The Hall family has been quite a challenge so far and I’m sure there is still a lot more waiting to be uncovered about this family. I have got back as far as the early 1800’s when my G-G-G Grandfather Robert Hall was born. His precise date of birth is unknown and the only reference I have for him is on his son’s wedding certificate. It is believed that Robert’s son Robert John was born in Oldham, Lancashire around 1850. It should be pointed out at this point that Robert John was also known as John Robert, the names seem to have been swapped around depending upon the event.

On 2nd March 1873, Robert John married Elizabeth Ann Spray in Leadenham and later that same year Robert John Jnr was born. He was baptised at Leadenham on 7th September. At the moment, I have no details of other children for Robert John and Elizabeth Ann.

Mabel Hall with Pamela

It has been said that when Robert John Jnr was about 4 or 5 years old, his mother died and his father struggled to raise the young boy. So Robert John Jnr was taken in and brought up by the Thompson family who were related to his mother. Robert John Snr is believed to have emigrated to Ohio U.S.A. but this has yet to be proved.

Robert John Jnr. got married on the 31st March 1901 to Nellie Ranshaw who’s family originated from Horncastle. On their marriage certificate, Robert John Jnr’s father is given as deceased, but no other details have been found as yet on his demise.

Robert John Jnr and Nellie had two children, the first being Albert Edward born in 1902 but only lived to be 5 when he died on the 12th June 1907. Their second child was Mabel (my Grandmother), born on the 14th June 1908. Mabel married Walter Cole on 22nd September 1937 in Lincoln.
